Pedalboards

A pedalboard is a board or aluminium frame that holds your guitar effects pedals and their power supply. You can then take the whole rig to a rehearsal or gig in one go, connected and ready to play. This page contains only pedalboards, from small boards for a few pedals to frames over a metre wide. Many come with a soft bag or hard case, and some have a power supply built into the frame. You can choose from ranges by Pedaltrain, RockBoard, Palmer Pedalbay, Voodoo Lab Dingbat, Gator Vertex, Temple Audio, Friedman Tour Pro, Nux, Boss and others.

What size pedalboard do you need?

Count the pedals you currently use, then allow space for a tuner, a power supply and one or two extra pedals. Small boards such as Pedaltrain Nano, Voodoo Lab Dingbat Tiny or Nux NPB-S are enough for a basic rig and are easy to carry. Medium-sized ranges such as Pedaltrain Metro, RockBoard TRES or Palmer Pedalbay 40 and 50 accommodate a typical rig for rehearsals and gigs. Large frames such as Pedaltrain Terra 42, Temple Audio Trio 43 or Friedman Tour Pro 1542 are designed for extensive rigs with plenty of pedals.

In the Pedaltrain and Temple Audio ranges, the number in the name indicates the board's width in inches. The Temple Audio Trio 28 is therefore approximately 72 cm wide.

Should you choose a pedalboard with a bag, case or power supply?

It depends on how often and how far you will transport your pedals. A soft bag (gig bag, labelled SC by Pedaltrain) is lightweight and sufficient for driving to rehearsals. A hard case (flight case, labelled TC or Hard Case by Pedaltrain) protects your pedals when you regularly play away from home and transport them in a van with other equipment. RockBoard offers the same boards in both versions, with a bag (with Gig Bag) or a case (with Flight Case).

If you would rather not deal with a separate power supply, choose a board with power built in. Yuer PR-01, Gator GPT-PRO-PWR and Boss BCB-90X have an integrated power supply, while Voodoo Lab Dingbat is also sold as a set with a Pedal Power supply. If you are putting together your own power arrangement, you will find what you need among the power supplies for effects pedals.

How do you attach your pedals and choose a frame?

Pedals are usually attached to the board with hook-and-loop tape, which is included with many models, such as Gator Vertex, Revoltage PedalFrame, Nux NPB or Pedaltrain. Most frames are made from aluminium with crossbars, allowing you to tuck cables and a power supply underneath. Gator Vertex Riser models have a raised rear row, so you can comfortably reach the pedals further away with your foot. D'Addario XPND and XPND Core can be expanded later as you add more pedals. You will find new pedals for your board among the guitar effects.
