Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd is an English rock band formed in London in 1965, known for pioneering psychedelic and progressive rock. The original lineup included Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright. With Barrett as the early creative force, they released hits like Arnold Layne and See Emily Play, and their debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. David Gilmour joined in 1967, while Barrett left soon after. Throughout the 1970s, Pink Floyd achieved global fame with conceptual albums like The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall, renowned for their innovative sound, philosophical lyrics, and ambitious live shows. The Wall was also adapted into an acclaimed film. Amid personal and creative differences, Wright left in 1981 and Waters departed in 1985, but the band continued under Gilmour and Mason, later joined again by Wright. Their later works included A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell, followed by major tours. In 2005, the classic lineup briefly reunited at Live 8. Pink Floyd ranks among the best-selling artists worldwide, with over 250 million records sold. They have earned multiple major awards and hall of fame inductions, and their albums The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall are considered classics in rock history. The band’s legacy is marked by artistic innovation and enduring cultural impact.
