Michel Legrand (1932–2019) was a celebrated French composer, arranger, conductor, jazz pianist, and singer. Renowned for his versatility, he created over 200 scores for film and television, along with numerous songs. He gained international acclaim for his collaborations with director Jacques Demy, notably on The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort. Legrand won three Academy Awards, including for the classic song "The Windmills of Your Mind" from The Thomas Crown Affair, and for his work on Summer of '42 and Yentl.
