Michael Kelly 1953 Caramel Burst Electric guitar

Electric guitar with T-style body shape from 1953 series that features just the right amount of vintage magic, which makes it the choice for those that are seeking a more traditional instrument. Its all-alder body is capped with flame maple and the pickup configuration appears vintage traditional, but features the MK Quad electronics mod. As the name implies it offers 4 great sonic options instead of the expected 3 options. The guitar has a 4 way switch and in that fourth position it provides both pickups in series – it is like having a nice fat humbucker as those two pickups work together. The guitar also has some nice and hot single-coil Rockfields TexPlus pickup designed especially for this instrument, Master Volume and Master Tone controls. Bolt-on, modern “C”-shaped maple neck is fitted with a rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and dot inlays. Scale length is 647.7 mm, nut width is 43 mm and fingerboard radius is 10.5”. Other features include an alder binding, a 1950 headstock, dual action truss rod, a bone nut fret, chrome hardware including die-cast tuners and a T-style bridge, and D’Addario EXL110 strings (gauges: .010-.046). Caramel Burst colour design.

A gitár kinézetre szép darab. A kapcsoló a leírással ellentétben 4 állású!

The guitar looks nice. Contrary to the description, the switch has 4 positions! The edges of the frets (frets) are not properly angled, so they stick out from the fretboard in several directions, and this can be annoying when playing!

Tökéletes választás: szép és minőségi termék. A klasszikus Telecaster forma a Stratocaster gitároknál szokásos karcsúsításokkal még kényelmesebb. A vékony C profilú nyak tökéletes. Nincs fret buzz. Erősítés nélkül is szépen szól. Csodálatos, ahogy a tömör égerfa test kizeng. Mind a 22 fret kényelmesen elérhető.

Perfect choice: beautiful and quality product. The classic Telecaster shape is even more comfortable with the usual slimming of Stratocaster guitars. The thin C-profile neck is perfect. No fret buzz. It sounds great even without amplification. The way the solid alder body resonates is amazing. It has a nice clean sound even when amplified. The fourth Humbucker option is very good in addition to the usual three. It is true what is written in many places, the quality is far above its price category. An interesting detail: the neck protrudes one fret more from the body than the neck of Fender Telecasters, which also have 22 frets. Because of this, the cutaway is also one fret deeper. All 22 frets are comfortably accessible. It fits in the Pasadena HS-LP300 hard case, and this case is quite reasonably priced.

After the Michael Kelly '55 Hybrid and the 1957 Trans Amber, I also bought the 1953 Blue Jeans Wash, but the one with the rosewood fretboard. It was second-hand, probably because of the wobbly volume and tone knobs. That wasn't the problem with the spindles, though; the knobs were just screwed on crookedly, which was easy to fix in two minutes. Although this is the cheapest of my three Michael Kelly guitars, it's increasingly becoming a favorite. It's super playable, sounds beautiful even unamplified, and it looks great too. An absolute bargain!

A bundok szélei nincsenek rendesen becsiszolva, vágnak.

Unfortunately, this guitar shows more on the outside than it actually is. Although it is showy, it unfortunately has quality flaws. The edges of the frets are not properly sanded, they are sharp. The pickups are microphonic, they pick up body noise even at low volume and clear tones. In addition, when I touch the fretboard while playing, a strong sizzling sound is produced. Unfortunately, these flaws are very disturbing. A beautiful and sophisticated-looking instrument, but with flaws of the cheapest category. I only keep it because I bought it on sale.
