Joe Hisaishi, born Mamoru Fujisawa on December 6, 1950, is a renowned Japanese composer, conductor, and pianist. He is best known for his longtime collaboration with filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, composing the scores for nearly all of Miyazaki’s films. Hisaishi’s distinctive style blends elements of minimalist, experimental electronic, Western classical, and Japanese classical music. In addition to his celebrated film work, he has created music for director Takeshi Kitano and the Ni no Kuni video game series. Over his career, Hisaishi has produced more than 100 film scores and numerous solo albums, making him one of Japan’s most influential contemporary musicians.
