Epiphone 1960 Hummingbird Reissue Heritage Cherry Sunburst electro-acoustic guitar

The Gibson Hummingbird™, first introduced in 1960, holds a special place in music history as Gibson’s very first square-shoulder acoustic guitar. It made its debut just as a new era of music was beginning and quickly found its way into the hands of iconic artists such as Keith Richards and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, Eric Church, J Mascis, Joe Bonamassa, Gillian Welch, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, Steve Wariner, Dan Auerbach, and many others.

Now, in proud collaboration with Gibson Custom, Epiphone introduces the 1960 Hummingbird Reissue—a faithful, Inspired by Gibson Custom recreation of the very first-year model that started it all. This stunning instrument features a thermally aged solid spruce top, delivering the warmth and resonance of a well-seasoned vintage guitar right out of the case. The top is supported by traditional scalloped X-bracing, hand-crafted from quarter-sawn solid spruce to ensure both strength and tonal clarity.

The back and sides are made from solid mahogany, enhancing the guitar’s overall warmth and balance. Combined with the vintage-voiced spruce top, the result is a rich and versatile sound that adapts beautifully to any style—whether you’re fingerpicking gently, strumming with power, or digging into single-note leads.

The one-piece mahogany neck, also thermally aged, is carved into a comfortable Rounded C profile and joined to the body with a traditional dovetail joint. A bound Indian rosewood fretboard tops the neck, fitted with 20 standard frets and adorned with elegant mother-of-pearl split parallelogram inlays—a true hallmark of the Hummingbird legacy.

Every visual detail has been carefully considered. The body is wrapped in multi-ply binding on both the top and back, while the fretboard and headstock feature subtle single-ply accents. The pickguard, unmistakably shaped like the original Hummingbird, is crafted from a layered acrylic-celluloid sandwich and etched with its legendary golden artwork.

The hardware complements the premium aesthetics. A rosewood belly-up bridge holds a compensated bone saddle, with a bone nut and bone bridge pins ensuring excellent tonal transfer. Tuning stability is provided by Epiphone Deluxe tuners with green Keystone buttons, finished in striking gold plating. The headstock follows the classic Gibson-style “open book” profile, complete with an aged mother-of-pearl Epiphone logo, Gibson Crown inlay, a black-and-white truss rod cover engraved “Hummingbird,” and the Inspired by Gibson Custom double diamond logo etched discreetly on the rear.

To meet the demands of modern players, the guitar is equipped with a factory-installed L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze VTC preamp system, paired with an under-saddle piezo pickup and soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls. Whether on stage or in the studio, this Hummingbird is ready to perform.

Finally, each instrument comes with an Inspired by Gibson Custom RedLine-style hardshell case, blending vintage styling with modern protection. The case includes a soft plush lining, interior compartments for accessories, and reinforced nylon handles and padded shoulder straps for convenient travel.

Available in Heritage Cherry Sunburst, the Epiphone 1960 Hummingbird Reissue captures the heart and soul of a true classic—built to inspire, built to last.
