Doc Watson was an influential American guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for his mastery of bluegrass, folk, country, blues, and gospel music. Blind from childhood, he became highly respected for his fingerpicking and flatpicking guitar techniques, and deep knowledge of traditional American music. Over his career, he won seven Grammy awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Watson performed both solo and in a long-running duo with his son Merle Watson until Merle’s passing in 1985.
