Classic Guitar Strings
Classical guitar string sets use nylon trebles and wound bass strings, so they should not be confused with steel sets for acoustic guitar. Tension affects resistance under the fingers, response and the feel of the picking hand. Choose according to the instrument's construction, playing technique and the manufacturer's guidance.
| Tension | Playing feel | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| Light / Normal | softer to balanced resistance | comfortable fretting, longer practice or sensitive fingers |
| Hard | firmer resistance | stronger attack, greater stability or a particular instrument response |
The Gauge filter helps compare specific diameters, while Number of strings separates a standard six-string set from other configurations. For flamenco, also consider the material and surface of the bass strings; higher tension alone does not determine whether a set is suitable. With down-tuning or an unusual scale length, check the manufacturer's specification so that the strings are neither too loose nor unnecessarily stiff.
