Angel Witch is a British heavy metal band, formed in London in 1976 and recognized as a key influence in the new wave of British heavy metal. Founded by guitarist and vocalist Kevin Heybourne, the band first released music as Lucifer before adopting the name Angel Witch in 1978. Their self-titled debut album from 1980 is considered a classic of the genre, thanks in part to standout tracks like Angel Witch, which received broad radio play. Despite frequent line-up changes and periods of inactivity, Heybourne has kept the band active across the decades, highlighted by festival appearances and the release of the 2019 album Angel of Light. Known for their dark, melodic sound and occult-inspired lyrics, Angel Witch remains a respected and influential name in heavy metal, inspiring later bands in thrash, speed, doom and extreme metal.
