Agogos
An agogo is a simple percussion instrument with a bright, cutting sound, most often used in samba, Latin music and African rhythms. A typical model has two bells of different sizes, so one stick lets you play a higher and a lower pitch quickly. In a band, classroom or home practice, it adds a strong rhythmic accent without complicated setup.
How to choose an agogo
- A metal agogo has a sharp ringing tone; a wooden agogo block sounds drier and softer.
- A larger size difference between the bells gives a clearer two-tone effect.
- Check for a comfortable grip, solid bell connection and a stick suited to a child, beginner or regular playing.
