Picture Disc Vinyl

Picture Disc Vinyl records are records with an image printed directly onto the disc itself – the album artwork, a portrait of the artist or a scene from a film. Here you'll find hundreds of titles across many genres: rock, pop, metal, electronic music, hip hop and film soundtracks. Most are released as 12" LPs at 33 ⅓ rpm, some as 2 LP double albums and a handful as 7" singles. The picture disc is a popular collector's format, and it also works well as a gift for a fan of a particular band.

How is a picture disc different from a standard black record?

On a picture disc, the printed image is sealed between clear layers of vinyl, so the artwork shows across the whole surface of the record, even while it is playing. You can play it on any ordinary turntable, just like a black LP. A picture disc can have slightly more surface noise than classic black vinyl, which is why many collectors buy it mainly for the way it looks and put it on display. A special type is the zoetrope picture disc: the images are drawn in a sequence that comes to life as a short animation under a strobe light.

Which picture disc records will you find here?

• Pop and rock: Michael Jackson Thriller, Bad, Dangerous or HIStory, Lady Gaga The Fame Monster, Gorillaz Demon Days.
• Metal: Megadeth Youthanasia and Countdown To Extinction, Tool Lateralus, Black Sabbath.
• Film soundtracks: Songs From Cars, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Rocky IV, Dirty Dancing.
• Limited and anniversary editions: more than a hundred titles have been released in limited runs, often to mark an album's anniversary.

The format is stated in the product name: ‘LP’ means a single 12" record, ‘2 LP’ is a double album, and a 7" single plays at 45 rpm. You'll find more film music among our soundtracks on vinyl, limited releases for the day that celebrates independent record shops in the Record Store Day section, and all other album releases among our full range of vinyl LPs.
