Water-based varnish creates a crackle effect on acrylic paint or any water-based paint. It is colorless and completely transparent. The 1-step medium will create larger, less regular cracks. Once done, clean your tools with Darwi Cleaner Brush Cleaner or a degreaser such as alcohol, ethanol or methanol.

You can use this effect to create beautiful beads, cabochons, pendants, to customize your decorative objects or your Darwi self-hardening paste creations. Use Darwi Acryl Metal paint to create gold, silver or bronze cracks! This will create a metallic foil effect! On a dark background, you'll appreciate the result even more. Change the effect by using a dark color on a light background, to give the varnished surface an antique look.

To vary the effect, change the way you apply crackle paints and varnishes (thin or thick coats, direction of application). If you apply thin coats, the cracks will be smaller. On the contrary, the thicker your coat, the bigger the cracks. With two-step crackle varnish, vary the two layer thicknesses to vary the effects.

For these products, you can choose either brush or sponge application. Crackling results will vary according to your choice of application method: instrument, direction of application, thickness of coats. Start by testing the application and rendering on a " draft " surface.

Be careful to apply the varnish only once per area. Do not reapply several times to the same spot, as this may affect the effect.

If you wish to give your cracks a background color, paint your surface with acrylic paint. You can also leave it as it is. Once the paint is dry, you can apply a coat of crackle medium. As soon as it looks dry, use a second, contrasting color of acrylic paint. You'll see the cracks appear after a few minutes.

If you wish, you can apply a protective varnish over the whole thing to ensure that the second coat of acrylic is not damaged.
