D'Addario PB054 Guitar string

Phosphor Bronze Single Acoustic Guitar String for Replacement and Custom Sets

The D'Addario PB054 is a single .054" gauge phosphor bronze wound string designed for acoustic guitar. It serves two clear purposes: replacing a single broken or worn string on an existing set without buying a full replacement pack, and building custom gauge sets for players who want specific tensions or alternate tunings. The phosphor bronze wrap wire is precision wound onto a hex-shaped high carbon steel core, producing the warm, bright, and well-balanced acoustic tone that has defined this series since it was pioneered in 1974. At .054" (1.37 mm), this string typically sits in the low E position of a standard acoustic set, making it the go-to replacement for the heaviest wound string on most guitars. It is also a natural choice for players who drop-tune their acoustic below standard pitch and need a heavier low-end string to maintain proper tension and intonation.

Who This String Is For

This PB054 is the right choice for acoustic guitar players who need a single replacement string in the .054" gauge range without purchasing a full set. It suits players who break their low E string frequently during heavy strumming or aggressive picking and want a quick, affordable fix. The .054" gauge also works well for guitarists who tune down to drop D, drop C, or other lower tunings and need a heavier string to maintain proper tension and tonal balance. As part of D'Addario's flagship Phosphor Bronze line, this string delivers the warm, bright, well-balanced tone preferred for strumming, flatpicking, and singer-songwriter accompaniment across folk, country, blues, and rock styles. It is manufactured in the USA at D'Addario's New York production facility to the same specifications as the strings in their full sets.
