Chalk markers

Chalk markers write with liquid chalk: the paint is matte and opaque like chalk, but it doesn’t create dust or leave your hands dirty. On smooth, non-porous surfaces – a chalkboard, window, mirror, glass, tiles, film, metal or acrylic glass – it stays put once dry and wipes off with a damp cloth. Use them to write the menu on a café chalkboard, paint winter decorations on windows, label glasses and jars and letter wedding signs. What are chalk markers good for?

A chalk marker replaces traditional chalk wherever you want to write cleanly and legibly: on black or white chalkboards, a shop window, the bathroom mirror or a glass pasta jar. The paint is water-based, dries quickly, is lightfast and covers well even on dark backgrounds. Kreul’s neon shades glow under UV light. If you want a writable surface on a wall, cupboard or wooden board, first coat it with chalkboard paint – Kreul specifically recommends its chalk markers for this kind of surface.

How do you wipe off chalk markers and where can a mark remain?

On smooth, non-porous surfaces such as glass, mirrors, lacquered boards or tiles, you wipe off the dried paint with a damp cloth or sponge. Porous surfaces like raw wood or paper soak up the paint, and a mark may remain. So test any new surface on a small spot first. If you want lettering on glass to stay permanently, reach for glass markers.

Which tip and which set of chalk markers should you choose?

• Kreul Chalk Marker Medium – 2–4 mm tip for lettering, menus and outlines, 11 colours, including the white Snow White, neon shades and the metallic Silver Show and Golden Glow.
• Kreul Chalk Marker XXL – 15 mm tip for large lettering and filling in areas on shop windows.
• Lyra Chalk Marker – 2–4 mm round tip for details and fine writing or 8–15 mm chisel tip for headings and shop windows.
• Sets of 4 – Kreul Winter (white, red, silver and gold) and Window Decoration (white, red, blue and green) for seasonal window pictures, Kreul Set and a Lyra mix.

The markers have a valve: before writing, press the tip down several times until it draws up the paint. Kreul tips keep their shape and can be removed and rinsed with water, and you can top up the white Snow White with a 25 ml refill.
