Audio-Technica AT5047 Studio Condenser Microphone

With its transformer-coupled output and large-diaphragm cardioid capsule modelled after vintage side-address studio designs, the AT5047 brings a musical, full-bodied character to vocal recording, acoustic instruments, and electric guitar cabinets. The side-address orientation and classic aesthetic belie a modern engineering approach that keeps self-noise at an impressively low 6 dB SPL while maintaining a wide dynamic range.

Transformer-Coupled Output

The custom-wound output transformer provides the gentle saturation and low-frequency weight that many engineers associate with vintage large-diaphragm condensers. It also offers excellent common-mode rejection and protects the circuit from ground loops and cable-induced interference in complex studio environments.

Large-Diaphragm Capsule

The externally polarized 25 mm capsule features a gold-sputtered diaphragm and is tuned for a smooth, natural frequency response from 20 Hz to 18 kHz. A gentle high-frequency presence rise adds clarity to vocals and strings without adding harshness, contributing to the AT5047's musical openness.

Pad and High-Pass Filter

A switchable 10 dB pad extends the usable SPL range up to 152 dB, accommodating close-miked loud sources. The switchable 80 Hz high-pass filter removes low-frequency buildup from heating systems, traffic, and stage vibration, keeping the recorded signal focused and clean.

Polar Pattern

Polar Pattern: Cardioid

The cardioid directional microphone is designed to be most sensitive to sounds coming directly from the front and less sensitive to sounds coming from the sides and back. This directional pattern resembles the shape of a heart (hence the name "cardioid") and is ideal for situations where it is necessary to focus on a single sound source and minimize ambient noise.

Frequency Range

Frequency Range: 20 Hz - 20 kHz

The frequency response 20 Hz - 20 kHz provides a wide enough range to capture all the fine musical and sonic details.
