Audio-Technica AT5045 Instrument Condenser Microphone

Designed for the most demanding studio and recording environments, the AT5045 is a small-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone featuring a newly developed rectangular capsule that provides exceptionally low self-noise and a flat, extended frequency response. Its precise transient accuracy makes it an outstanding choice for acoustic instruments, orchestral sections, and any application where faithful source reproduction is paramount.

Rectangular Capsule Innovation

The AT5045's novel rectangular capsule design increases diaphragm surface area compared to conventional circular small-diaphragm capsules of the same width, resulting in higher sensitivity and improved low-frequency response. This geometry also contributes to the microphone's remarkably low self-noise of just 7 dB SPL (A-weighted).

Flat, Extended Frequency Response

With a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz and minimal coloration across the midrange, the AT5045 captures the true character of acoustic sources without exaggerating any particular frequency region. A gentle presence peak adds subtle air without harshness, suitable for both spot-miking and overhead use.

High SPL Capability

Maximum SPL handling of 149 dB (with the included 10 dB pad engaged: 159 dB) means the AT5045 handles brass bells, snare drums, and close-miked percussion without overloading the capsule. The switchable high-pass filter helps manage proximity effect and low-frequency rumble in live recording situations.

Polar Pattern

Polar Pattern: Cardioid

The cardioid directional microphone is designed to be most sensitive to sounds coming directly from the front and less sensitive to sounds coming from the sides and back. This directional pattern resembles the shape of a heart (hence the name "cardioid") and is ideal for situations where it is necessary to focus on a single sound source and minimize ambient noise.

Frequency Range

Frequency Range: 20 Hz - 20 kHz

The frequency response 20 Hz - 20 kHz provides a wide enough range to capture all the fine musical and sonic details.
