Tempera Paints
Tempera is an opaque, water-thinnable paint suitable for paper, cardboard, and school or decorative projects. Individual ranges vary in coverage, consistency, and washability. Not every tempera paint is suitable for fabric, ceramics, or objects used outdoors. Therefore, check the support and expected durability before painting.
Coverage and amount of water
Thin the paint in small amounts. Too much water reduces coverage and may warp the paper, while a thick application dries unevenly. Join large areas while they are still wet and wait for the support to stabilize before adding another layer.
Tempera, gouache, and acrylic
- Tempera is practical for simple opaque painting and larger packs.
- Gouache Paints provide a matte, opaque layer for illustration.
- Acrylic Paints form a stronger film after drying.

Brush and paper
A wider soft brush covers areas, while a smaller round brush adds details. Choose paper according to the amount of water. Work more sparingly on a thin sheet and let individual sections dry.
After painting
Wash brushes before the paint dries and close the containers. Protect the finished painting from moisture and abrasion. Assess washability from hands or fabric only according to the specific product.
