In early 1965, the original Firebird design underwent several notable transitions. One of the most significant changes was the introduction of the “Non-Reverse” headstock. Unlike the original Reverse design, which featured a two-layered headstock with a holly veneer, the new headstock was flat and resembled the bill of a platypus. This "Platypus-style" Firebird also featured six-in-line tuners, replacing the banjo-style tuners used in earlier models.

The Firebird Platypus pays homage to those rare transitional models. It boasts a mahogany body with a glued-in, set neck, giving it the appearance of a traditional neck-through Reverse Firebird body. The mahogany neck has a Slim Taper profile and a rosewood fretboard, complemented by the Platypus-style headstock, which is equipped with Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners. The headstock design has been slightly modified to ensure straight string pull, reducing friction and enhancing tuning stability.

The Firebird remains one of the most distinctive guitar designs ever created, and the Firebird Platypus takes this legendary instrument a step further with its unique appearance. Its tone is equally remarkable, thanks to two articulate, historically accurate Firebird mini-humbucker pickups with Alnico 5 magnets. These pickups deliver bell-like chime when played clean and powerful rock and blues tones that cut through the mix when overdriven.

Individual volume and tone controls allow for further sound customization. The iconic pickguard features the legendary hot-stamped Firebird graphic, adding a touch of tradition to this innovative model. A hardshell case is included to protect this exceptional guitar.
